2015 Kiddush Cup

The 2015 Kiddush Cup Golf Tournament which took place on June 19, 2015, was a success thanks to its generous volunteers and supporters. Since its inception in 2000, the annual Kiddush Cup Golf Tournament has been the cornerstone of Beth Israel’s fundraising effort.

Sabbath Joy’ with Folksinger Rick Calvert
Beth Israel Synagogue welcomed back folk musician Rick Calvert for its annual “Sabbath Joy” program. “What makes ‘Sabbath Joy’ (and similar creative services around the country) so special is that it gave congregants the opportunity to experience prayer through familiar sacred texts with a blend of traditional and contemporary musical settings,” said Calvert. “The goal is to provide enough of a blend of the familiar to establish a foundation of comfortable anchor points throughout the service. This provides a setting for enjoying interspersed newer, more unfamiliar settings, which constitute new commentary on familiar prayers,” he said. Please visit www.rickcalvert.net to learn more about Rick Calvert and hear a bit of his music.

Menorah lighting was followed by potato latkes with all the trimmings! Click here to view photos. This program was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven.
Sukkot Celebration
Beth Israel Synagogue held a memorable Sukkot service on its new property next to the synagogue. A lot of hard work went into setting up and taking down the Sukkot.

Torah Restoration Program
Rabbi Saul Teitelbaum of Monsey, NY came to restore our 4 Torahs, which he estimates to be over 150 years old, and from Poland. He had last worked on them in 1996. On Sunday, Rabbi Teitelbaum spoke to the Sunday School students in the morning, and in the afternoon, we hosted an open house, where members of the congregation and the greater community came to observe the Rabbi and ask questions. He was very mirthful and informative. On Monday and Tuesday evenings, congregants - who sponsored the restoration of a letter, word or verse of their choice - met with the Rabbi to "help" him "write" the Torah, thus performing an important Mitzvah. See the photos here.
Purim Celebration
Beth Israel held a Purim celebration that had participants on the move! Services were followed by a pot luck dinner and several lively rounds of Israeli dancing. See the photos here.
