GROWING JEWISH FAITH THROUGH EDUCATION
Have your child experience a sense of belonging and fun, as they develop a strong Jewish identity. Our curriculum familiarizes each child with Hebrew, holidays, and prayers and prepares them for their eventual bar and bat mitzvahs.
Students receive a lot of individual attention, yet have the opportunity to socialize and create a bond with other Jewish children as they grow together as if being part of a small kibbutz.
The Sunday sessions are taught by husband and wife team Deborah and Jacob Edery. The Ederys have been teaching Hebrew school together for over 30 years, first in western Connecticut and then at Beth Israel.
Deborah is a long time New Haven resident and certified therapeutic recreation director. She devotes most of her time to creating a variety of different activities that are both educational and fun -- all centered on Jewish traditions, holidays and the Bible.
Jacob grew up in Israel and served in the Israeli Defense Force. He focuses on teaching Israeli history and culture, advanced prayers, and reading Hebrew.
The Ederys make the experience of learning enjoyable and nurtures each child's desire to remain connected to their faith. Students enjoy storytelling, games, crafts, puppet shows, videos and field trips.
Midweek sessions for students in 3rd grade and up are led by Rabbi Bruce Alpert.
