Judaism in Six Snapshots: An introduction to a unique people
Tuesday, February 7, 2023 • 16 Shevat 5783
7:00 PM - 9:00 PMZOOM ONLYSnapshot One: Who We Are
In our six-part series, we will be exploring Judaism as a civilization. Judaism is too broad a subject with too long and rich a history to be understood merely as a religion. We will examine that civilization through the lens of that history, that religion, and those forces from both within and without that have shaped its development up until today.
Judaism can trace its roots back nearly 4000 years; longer than just about any other Western civilization. For more than half that time, its adherents have been stateless. Who are we? Where did we come from? What do we believe? And what is it about us that makes us such tenacious survivors? Our first session will explore these questions as we try to get the sense of Jews as both an historical people and a living civilization.
