Our Greater Justice - A History of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
Sunday, June 2, 2024 • 25 Iyyar 5784
3:00 PM - 7:00 PMIn 1926, the Zionist leader Ze’ev Jabotinsky remarked about the unfolding conflict between Jews and Arabs in Palestine, “The tragedy lies in the fact that there is a collision here between two truths. But,” he concluded, “our justice is greater.” This class will review the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with an eye toward understanding each of the two truths of which Jabotinsky spoke. It is intended for the entire Beth Israel community and friends, but especially for our young folks who are being exposed to the conflict from sources with either faulty knowledge or hidden biases. The aim is to impress upon those who attend the justice of Israel's claim to our allegiance. But the premise is that one cannot articulate that justice unless you can clearly and sympathetically articulate the truth that animates Palestinian claims. We will serve pizza and other snacks during the presentation/discussion. Questions and challenges will be welcomed throughout the program so long as they are offered in the spirit of learning and respect. Please join us for what we hope will be an important program in understanding the nature of this conflict that has raged for more than 100 years and which continues to divide us.
